| BORROWING
PRIVILEGES are extended to qualified residents of Lake County
for books and other media in any of the library's circulating
collections for a 3 week period, renewal if another patron has not
reserved the item. |
| COLORADO LIBRARY
CARD PROGRAM allows residents to use their local library card in any
public library in Colorado. When you borrow books directly from
another library, Lake County Public Library will return them for you for free. We honor
all Colorado public library cards in good standing. |
| TELEPHONE
REFERENCE SERVICE is available for questions that can be
answered quickly by telephone. For questions requiring a longer
search, patrons are encouraged to come to the library in person. |
| RESERVE
a book on order or in circulation by phone (719) 486-0569, FAX (719) 486-3544, or in
person. Reserves, renewals, or short messages may also be recorded
on our phone-answering machine if the library is closed. |
| INTERLIBRARY
LOAN service is available to registered patrons. We can
usually obtain from another library any book or magazine article not
available here within a week. Hard-to-locate items may take
longer. There is usually no charge for this service between
libraries. |

| STORY HOURS
for preschoolers are held weekly from October through May. |
| AFTER SCHOOL
PROGRAM for elementary schoolers is held weekly from October
through May. |
| SUMMER READING
PROGRAM for children is held from mid-June to mid-August. |

| AMAX ROOM
is available for use by non-profit groups of up to 75 persons any day or
evening of the week. Early booking is recommended. |
| LEADVILLE AND
BABY DOE ROOMS may be used by small groups during library hours. |

| PUBLIC COMPUTERS
WITH INTERNET ACCESS are available for public use for free.
Children 10 years of age and under must have adult supervision. There
are charges for printing. |

Internet Connection available - Bring your own laptop and
connect to the Internet or you can sign in to use the 2 laptops
available in the library. |
| ON-LINE DATA
BASE SEARCHES (ACLIN) of the catalogs of most of the major academic and
public libraries in Colorado are now possible. Lake County Public
Library's catalog is now available on ACLIN. |

DATABASE, CHILTONS,
ENCYCLOPEDIA
BRITANNICA &
ENCICLOPEDIA EN
ESPANOL are available on all public computers and can also be
accessed from home. |

| AUDIO-VISUAL
EQUIPMENT for use in the library includes television, a VCR, DVD
player, cassette
players, overhead projector, opaque
projector, and a local cable TV connection. |
| PHOTOCOPYING
is available to the public at 20 cents per copy. The
charges for MICROFILM or MICROFICHE copies is 20 cents. The public
is welcome to use our FAX machine for $1.00 per page incoming and/or outgoing. |
| GENEALOGY &
LOCAL HISTORY RESEARCH materials may be used in the library by
local residents and visitors alike. Requests to conduct research
in these areas will be referred to a volunteer researcher whose charges
are usually limited to the cost of photocopies and postage. |
| INCOME TAX FORMS
provided by the IRS and the State of Colorado are available here each
year between January 1 and April 15. |

OUR CIRCULATING COLLECTIONS |
| The library contains
over 25,000 books. All the library's materials can be located
through the public electronic card catalog stations. Materials in the following collections may be borrowed by registered
patron in good standing. |
| BOOKS FOR ADULTS
- Over 8,600 volumes of non-fiction
are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal classification.
Another 3,600 fiction titles are shelved alphabetically by authors.
A collection of 1,600 paperbacks are arranged in the lounge area by
categories: Mysteries, Westerns, Science Fiction, etc. |
| LARGE PRINT
BOOKS - A small collection of popular titles for persons with
impaired sight. This collection (approximately 200) consists of
fiction and non-fiction. VISUALLY OR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED patrons may
request forms at the Library enabling them to receive Braille or talking
books directly from the Colorado State Library at no charge. |
| FICTION FOR
YOUNG ADULTS of junior/senior high school age: 380 volumes. |
| CHILDREN'S BOOKS:
About 3,600 picture books and books with simple text for preschoolers
through 3rd graders comprise the "E" (Easy) Collection.
Another 2,200 volumes marked "J" (Juvenile) are enjoyed by
children in Grades 3 through 6. We also have 3,400 non-fiction
books for children. |
| BOOKS IN SPANISH FOR ADULTS, YOUNG
ADULTS AND CHILDREN: Our collection consists of Fiction and
Non-Fiction books. We have over 200 volumes for Adults &
Young
Adults, and over 800 for children. |
| VIDEOCASSETTES,
DVD's, BOOKS ON TAPE or CD are now available for
circulation the same as books. This is a collections of over
600. Some have public performance
rights. |
| INFORMATION FILE:
Pamphlets, maps, clippings, etc. are filed under appropriate subject
headings and may be borrowed. |

| THE REFERENCE
COLLECTION contains over 800 volumes such as encyclopedia and
other sources providing statistical, historical, biographical and
directory information. |
| TELEPHONE
DIRECTORIES for most Colorado communities are located in the
library. |
| THE COLORADO
MOUNTAIN HISTORY COLLECTION housed in the Leadville Room
contains over 1,200 books and other documents relating to the history of
Leadville and the surrounding areas. the collection also contains
local newspapers on microfilm beginning in 1879, census schedules from
1860 to 1910, a complete set of Leadville city directories, a necrology
file, local cemetery directories, a collection of documents &
memorabilia relating to Camp Hale and the 10th Mountain Division ski
troops, and over 2,l500 historic photographs. Copies of the latter
may be purchased. |
| THE MAP
COLLECTION contains over 75 large-scale maps, many depicting
underground workings and mining claims for some of the more than 3.00
Lake County mines. |
| LIBRARY
MANAGEMENT COLLECTION (230 volumes) includes works on Library
"know-how", current "recommended" lists, and
book-ordering sources such as Books in Print. |

RENEWAL OF BOOKS AND OTHER MATERIALS |
| The Library does not
charge fines for overdue books. However, Colorado law provides that
borrowers holding library materials longer than 30 days following written
notice are subject to criminal prosecution (Colo. Rev. Stat.
24-90-117). We therefore strongly urge borrowers who cannot
return materials by the date stamped on the borrowed item to RENEW
such items by phone before the items are due, or in person if the
items become overdue. When renewing by phone,
please give us the complete title of the book. Books which are
overdue CANNOT be renewed by phone. Our 24-hour book drop is located next to the 12th street
door. |

| The Lake County Public
Library receives the majority of its financial support from a small
percentage of Lake County Property taxes. Library policies are
determined by the Board of Trustees, each appointed for a 5 year term by
