Victorian Preservation and Restoration Sources for Leadville

A list of sources for anyone planning to restore or renovate a local building in the Victorian style.

Resources within the Lake County Public Library

Historic preservation and restoration of buildings within Leadville is an important topic within our community.  The majority of our older buildings are in the Victorian style. This guide does not presume to be comprehensive but it is a good place to start.  Also check out our Colorado Mountain History Collection photos for more ideas.

Page links in the left column will take you to other lists of books or documents within our library that may be of help as you delve into your project.  These pages link to resources involving:  Preservation, conservation and restoration; Victorian architecture; Victorian interiors; and lastly possibly important e-documents from the Colorado government.  Below is the list of resources on Leadville buildings.

Bighorn Ace Hardware at 1902 North Poplar Street in Leadville (next to Safeway) does carry the original paint swatches from Smith Lumber.  These are locally known as the "Leadville colors".  These swatches are the colors that were historically available to building owners from the mid to late 1800s onward.

Remember, anything marked CMHC (Colorado Mountain History Collection) is not available to check out but is available for viewing within our building.  If there is a particular book that you want that is not on these lists, we can also get you other books through Marmot or through interlibrary loan (ILL).
